Welcome New Reign Fitness Coach Russel T.

We are excited to introduce you to our newest Reign Fitness Coach, Russel T. and we can't wait for you to meet him.

He brings lot's of great energy, experience coaching, but most importantly an amazing commitment to serving a community like ours.

But before you start seeing more of him around the gym in the coming months, take a moment to get to know him better in our Coach's Spotlight.

Here is Russ…

1. Tell us a little about yourself?

I'm a rare local native that was raised in Beacon Hill and grew up loving sports. In fact, my parents steered me away from all things video games when I was younger to socialize with other kids/athletes to be the best version of myself.

Well...lo and behold, that kick-starter plummeted me into more competitive level sports throughout high school and college which led me down the path of taking on Triathlon and CrossFit as hobbies and a mainstay until this day.

These are two things I'm passionate about and truly encompass my life besides my career, friends and family. Outside of this, I've been working in the Technology industry for the past 13 years working for large corporate level companies such Macy's, Amazon, Expedia, T-Mobile, and Microsoft currently.

You'll find that I'm a coffee fiend, and won't ever turn down a mean cup of Joe, or fancy myself with a cappuccino. Let's have a chat over a cup, yeah?!

2. What made you want to coach, lead, and be a part of the Reign Community?

It's plain and simple--the brand and community I've observed in my initial interviews and experiences in classes made me feel that it wasn't just a gym, but a family that strives to make a difference for each and everyone of its members.

3. Favorite cheat meal?

Love me some Sushi rolls, Mac 'N Cheese, or Pizza--just depends on my mood. Also, I have a true vice for chips and cookies!

4. What kind of impact do you hope to make here at Reign?

From a day-to-day standpoint, I want to be that coach that leaves you feeling like, "hey, he made a difference in my day (whether it was a good one or bad), and pushed me to meet my fitness goals and intentions in that moment.

Longer term, someone I can count on to make me the better version of myself, creates an environment focused around technique/precision, and is able to listen to me complain or even cry on when I can't push that extra rep.

5. What are your goals or aspirations for 2020?

From a coaching standpoint, I want to take my experience to the next level and focus more on programming and personal training. Personally, I want to start conditioning and prepping my body for another IronMan in 2021 (more on that below), and travel as much as I can.

Here's a personal blog about me regarding my comeback to triathlon after a serious car accident in 2015 that sidelined me close to two years from Fitness:

6. First CD you bought & Favorite Movie of all time...

Ha! I can't remember, but pretty sure it was some smooth R&B or Hip-Hop, because when I had the means to do so in middle school, I wanted to learn how to dance!

Ferris Bueller's Day Off!!

7. What are your hobbies outside of Fitness?

I love to snowboard and can't wait to shred the mountain!

8. What's your spirit animal?

A dolphin: People identifying with the dolphin as a spirit animal are normally gentle, peaceful, and possess a deep inner strength.

Dolphins are highly intelligent and this helps to balance out their animal nature. They are capable of trusting their intuition and instincts instead of overthinking things

9. Life words of wisdom or favorite quote? How has it influenced your life?

"Man created the concept of time and spent the rest of his life being controlled by it." -- Albert Einstein

"It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change" -- Charles Darwin

Be humble, and don't ever get bored with consistency!

10. What advice would you give to anyone looking to start their fitness journey?

Enjoy the ride and don't take yourself too seriously--take the small wins in stride, and set attainable goals for yourself that keep you accountable

11. One interesting fact about yourself?

I can ride a unicycle! LOL

12. Share one training or nutrition strategy that needs to be in everyone's toolbox.

Limit your grains/starches, and over index in carbohydrates (vegetables specifically), and lean proteins.

And...always hydrate!!

13. Who do you look up to and why?

My parents--I'm the man that I am today because of my mental fortitude and business savvy from my father, and gentle/empathetic side from my mother.

14. Favorite memory in the last 5 years?

Finishing my 3rd Ironman in May of this year in Coeur d'Alene. If you refer to the blog in the fifth question above, it'll resonate with you.

15. Favorite exercise? Why?

I'm a metcon type-of-guy.

It's the true test of fitness. Some people are amazing in calisthenics/plyometrics, and some in weightlifting. This challenges you to be well-balanced in both disciplines.

16. Would you like to share or add anything?

I'm excited to meet everyone, and looking forward to getting to know you personally and professionally.

17. What are you most excited about joining the Reign Team and Reign Fitness Community?

Being apart of something greater than a gym, and serving a purpose that has a stronghold and life-lasting impression.

AND...
